Diospyros cathayensis Steward brings wealth to villagers

In early autumn, rows of Diospyros cathayensis Steward seedlings are thriving at a planting base of Songbaitan Village, Tanxi Town, Luxi County. Diospyros cathayensis Steward is orange yellow and shaped like a bullet. It has extremely high ornamental value and is highly favored by bonsai lovers and consumers. “Good quality bonsai can be sold for thousands of yuan, and seedlings can also be sold, with a very promising market prospect,” said Zhang Zonghu, a member of the resident working team in the village.

Since the beginning of this year, the village has focused on the development advantages of rural courtyard economy, adopted the model of company plus village collective, vigorously developed the characteristic planting industry of Diospyros cathayensis Steward, and actively expanded new channels for villagers to increase income.

At present, a 30-mu (2 hectares) planting base for Diospyros cathayensis Steward has been built in the village, cultivating 600,000 seedlings of more than ten varieties. Among them, more than 30,000 pots of the plant are bearing fruits. Cultivation and management techniques, and later sales are crucial for developing characteristic planting. A professional company has been introduced to provide technical guidance throughout the whole process of seedling cultivation, pruning, grafting and styling design for the Diospyros cathayensis Steward.

At the same time, relying on the company’s platform resources and mature channels, the village actively seeks online and offline sales channels to ensure sales of the Diospyros cathayensis Steward.

“We have signed an agreement with two villagers on a pilot project for courtyard economy, according to which the village will provide free Diospyros cathayensis Steward seedlings, the villagers will be responsible for planting and production, and the company will provide technology and ensure sales,” said Zhang Zonghu.

Through the pilot project, more villagers will be encouraged to develop the courtyard economy, create “beautiful courtyards”, and make Diospyros cathayensis Steward an industry to help rural revitalization and construction of beautiful countryside.
